 Dean's Message

In 2010, Lingnan (University) College received both AMBA and EQUIS accreditations, reaffirming our reputation as a premier business school in China with international standing. Lingnan constantly reflects upon the purpose of education and especially emphasizes the development of humane thinking and global perspectives in its students. In early 2012, in order to enhance the liberal arts education at the College, we initiated a comprehensive review of undergraduate education and released a Report on Lingnan Undergraduate Education with action plans. The Review will guide us in providing stronger general education and capacity building in our undergraduate program. Apart from liberal arts education, Lingnan also embraces student advising, international exposure, community service and team sports to develop student’s leadership abilities and social responsibility. All these efforts will equip our students with important qualities such as the well-rounded personality, creativity, hands-on experience, and social responsibility that characterize future leaders.

Internationalization is the unique trademark of Lingnan. As a pioneer in internationalization of business education, Lingnan aspires to be a leading global business school in China within the next decade. In the past few years, Lingnan has seen many new initiatives and achievements in different areas. The successful launch of the “Lingnan Forum” and “Lingnan Lecture Series” further enhanced the brand image of Lingnan. “Lingnan Corporate Scholarship” has attracted leading domestic and multi-national corporations to set up scholarships for our undergraduate and master’s degree programs. A group of talented young scholars have joined Lingnan. Great efforts have been put to develop strategic partnerships with leading international business schools and the “Yale-China/L(U)C Global Leadership Symposium” gave Lingnan undergraduate students and Yale University students the chance to collaborate and work together. All these efforts have made it possible for our College to build a favorable platform for international immersion and exchanges.

Thanks to the unwavering support and tireless efforts of the Board of Trustees, Lingnan has received over 250 million HK dollars in donations from alumni and friends, which have provided abundant teaching facilities, established teaching and research development funds, scholarships for faculty and students, and ushered in the support of MIT Sloan School of Management for the establishment of the International MBA program. All these efforts have created the most favorable teaching and learning environment in China.

Looking to the future, special efforts will be made to further promote academic exchanges and develop an international faculty team, while continuously improving the quality of research and teaching in both Economics and Management, especially China’s economic and managerial practices. Original research in these areas will be specially emphasized and faculty will be strongly encouraged to publish in top tier domestic and international academic journals.

I have full confidence that, under the leadership of Sun Yat-sen University and with the support of our Board of Trustees, alumni and colleagues, we shall strengthen our competitive position to meet the challenges and opportunities in the years ahead. As always, we will promote continuous improvement and excellence in research and teaching to make Lingnan a leading global business school from China.
